The police chief in Washington is angry about a councilwoman allowing confiscated pitbulls to return to their owner. "That was not authorized by anyone - the chief, mayor or attorney," said Police Chief Ronelle "Bruce" Broussard.

Monday, Washington Police and Opelousas and St. Landry Parish Animal Controls rounded up 17 pitbulls whose owners were not complying with a revised city ordinance. Councilwoman Mona Wilson asked the town clerk to write a letter authorizing one of the dog owner's to pick up her three pitbulls from animal control on the condition she does not take them into town limits. The chief wants to know why he wasn't notified. Broussard said animal control will again pick up the dogs and return them to the shelter.
