Sheriff Louis Ackal would like to warn residents of a possible scam involving telephone calls requesting immediate payment for active warrants.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office learned of the scam after receiving multiple complaints describing a similar theme. Each individual was previously called from someone claiming to work for the Iberia Parish Clerk of Courts Office asking for immediate payment concerning a warrant or they would be arrested, possibly at their place of employment or church. The payment is being requested in the form of a credit card and most calls reflect an out of state area code.
The public should be aware that the Iberia Parish Clerk of Courts Office will never contact a member of the public by telephone to demand any type of payment and does not deal in matters concerning warrants.
Anyone receiving a call from someone claiming to be with the Iberia Parish Clerk of Courts Office in connection with requests for money concerning a warrant is urged to contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office at 337-369-3711.
