Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue reports an arrest of an Opelousas man who allegedly wielded a machete during a fight three weeks ago in Ville Platte.
On Feb. 6, at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Ville Platte Police Department (VPPD) received a report of an altercation in progress in the 1800 block of Kembo Ave. When officers arrived, they learned that an altercation had taken place between two men, requiring medical treatment for severe injuries to one of the two men.
Det. Chateuse James initiated an investigation and stated that she had learned that one male subject repeatedly had struck the other male with a machete in the area of his head, shoulders and back.
Eyewitness accounts and evidence led to the arrest of Anthony Marks 50, of 803 East Street in Opelousas, who was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail without incident. Marks was charged with aggravated second degree battery and was transferred to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Jail. Chief Lartigue said that the district attorney is reviewing the file with the possibility of upgrading the charges Marks may face.
