St. Mary Parish residents will vote in November on whether to extend the parish president's term limit.
The parish council approved today an amendment to the parish charter allowing the parish president to serve three terms before being forced to step down.
The council also approved another amendment that would deduct a councilman's pay after he misses more than three regular council meetings in a calendar year. The amendment allows the council to wave this rule by a two-thirds vote.
These items will appear on the November 4 ballot.
