Vote-Buying Arrest in Mamou

Press Release: On September 18, 2010 Chief Greg Dupuis received phone calls from concerned citizens and candidates that Ricky John McGee had just brought four people from Mamou to vote absentee and that he had paid them to vote. Chief Dupuis was given the names of four voters and an investigation was requested. Chief Dupuis at that time spoke to the four voters and confirmed the complaint was valid. He then notified D.A Trent Brignac, and it was agreed that Mr. McGee be notified about the investigation and told to restrain from participating in the absentee process. Mr. McGee agreed. On Monday, September 20, 2010 another complaint was received from the same people that Mr. McGee had arranged for two more people to be brought to vote by someone else and when they returned he paid them. The names were given to Chief Dupuis and it was confirmed by the individuals that this complaint was also valid. Six people all gave notarized statements confirming the allegations. This information was brought to the D.A office by Chief Dupuis and Detective Marie Potter, and they were advised by the D.A to make an arrest. A warrant has been issued for six counts of voter bribery with a bond set at $10,000. If any one has information pertaining to this case please contact Detective Marie Potter at the Mamou Police Department.
