The City of Franklin will host its portion of Tour du Teche on Saturday, October 4, 2014, along the Bayou Teche. Franklin's portion of Tour du Teche is called the "Sugar Race." Paddlers will begin the Sugar Race in St. Martinville and continue their journey to Franklin; this part of Tour du Teche is 59 miles.
The organizers are looking for volunteers from all walks of life--parents, students, athletes, members of fraternal organizations, active-duty military and veterans just to name a few. All volunteers will receive a meal voucher and a t-shirt. Volunteers must sign up by August 14.
"This is an opportunity for students who are considering college to have something to put on their applications. Those that are looking for jobs can put this on their resumes. Interesting volunteer experiences can be intriguing to employers; they show that the applicants kept learning, wanted to help their community and made the most of an opportunity," stated Mayor Raymond Harris.
