Volunteers Needed for Tour du Teche

The City of Franklin will host its portion of Tour du Teche on Saturday, October 4, 2014, along the Bayou Teche. Franklin's portion of Tour du Teche is called the "Sugar Race." Paddlers will begin the Sugar Race in St. Martinville and continue their journey to Franklin; this part of Tour du Teche is 59 miles. These athletes will need assistance once they reach Franklin. Volunteers are needed to write down the finishing times of the paddlers, see that the paddlers sign next to their times, assist the paddlers out to their watercraft and help them to pull their watercraft onshore.

Last year the first paddlers reached Franklin at approximately 5:00 p.m. Therefore, volunteers are needed to work two-hour shifts, which would begin in the late afternoon and go through the evening and night as paddlers arrive in Franklin.

The organizers are looking for volunteers from all walks of life--parents, students, athletes, members of fraternal organizations, active-duty military and veterans just to name a few. For more information and to sign up to volunteer, contact the Office of Community Development at 337-828-6345 or at ashields@franklin-la.com.
