VINTON, La. (AP) - The Town Council has authorized Mayor Kenneth Stinson to open negotiations with a hotel developer who is interested in a town-owned tract on West Street.
Stinson tells The American Press that the town bought a 12-acre tract on West Street in late 2013 with plans to sell the property for economic development.
He says those opportunities didn't develop because the price asked by the previous owners was too high. Now that the town owns the property, he said, there has been much interest from potential buyers, including hotels and other businesses.
The mayor says he believes the town will be able to sell all 12 acres to one or more buyers.
