It’s been just Dion and Robin Carter for five years, but this year they’re hoping to add a new addition to the family.
Robin Carter said, "You can have everything in life but children are the best part of life and I really do feel that this is it for us."
The Ville Platte couple was chosen to receive The Gift of Hope--a free in vitro procedure--compliments of Dr. John Storment and his staff.
The Carter’s were this years Gift of Hope recipient.
Robin said she feels “grateful that somebody cares enough to do something like this for us and other couples."
Infertility affects one out of six couples in the US. Many people can't get in vitro simply because of the cost.
Dr. Storment, Medical Director of Fertility at the Women’s Health Center of Louisiana said,“including medication can be anywhere from 10 to 15,000 dollars"
Carter said, "It’s a huge burden that's going to be taken off of us because we didn't know how we were going to be able to afford."
Eric and Beth McCleery received The Gift of Hope in 2007. Now they have a 14 month old baby girl.
Beth McCleery said, "it's like winning the lottery a million times over, I can't imagine what we did before."
By the end of July, the Carter’s are hoping to have their own baby on the way.
