Jury selection is underway in Jeff Davis Parish in the trial of a Ville Platte High football coach. It's been more than a year and a half since police said Roy Serie caused an accident that killed two people, including his wife Sheila.
Police said Roy crossed the median and hit another vehicle. T he news shocked the Ville Platte community, where the Serie's were a well known couple. Roy is the head football coach and athletic director at Ville Platte High, a position he's kept throughout this case.
He's facing a number of charges including two counts of negligent vehicular homicide, one count of negligent vehicular injury and driving while intoxicated. He was arrested three months after the crash after toxicology reports showed he had illegal drugs in his system.
He pleaded not guilty in November. The case was originally set to go to trial in March of last year, but was delayed. It's set to go to trial this week, but could be delayed a second time because another murder trial is set to take place before his.
We'll let you know if the case does go to trial this week. If not, it'll be delayed until April.
