Victim in Motorcycle Crash on West Congress Identified

The victim in the crash is identified as Malorie Alyce Chiasson (20) of Scott.  The crash remains under investigation.

The family of Malorie Chaisson is asking the community for donations to help with funeral arrangements. Donations can be made at any Home Bank location. Please make checks payable to Joyce Chaisson (grandmother), or cash. The family greatly appreciates your support at this time of sorrow. Funeral arrangements are being make at Melancon Funeral Home in Carencro.


On December 4, 2009, at approximately 8:30 pm, officers with the Lafayette Police Department responded to the 2400 block of West Congress Street regarding a crash involving a motorcycle. Traffic investigator indicated that the victim was traveling west, in the 2400 block of West Congress Street, when a vehicle drove out of a parking lot. The vehicle, which was attempting to turn left onto West Congress Street, drove directly into the path of the motorcycle. The collision caused the rider of the motorcycle to be ejected. The operator of the motorcycle, a 20 year old female of Scott, was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead. The operator of the vehicle was not injured.

The operator of the motorcycle's name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. The operator of the vehicle, Courtney Jefferson (28) of Lafayette, was cited for Failure to Yield from a Private Drive. The crash remains under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department's Traffic Section.
