A nurse by training, Engelman began her career at three hospitals in Florida, working in both surgical units and emergency rooms. She received a master's degree in nursing administration with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina.
"For more than 16 years I have observed first-hand Rebecca's unique blend of outstanding leadership skills and expertise in health care quality for underserved populations," said Jernigan. Said Engelman: "I am looking forward to the challenge of helping LaCare build healthy communities in its state, as Select Health has done in South Carolina. The state has many opportunities to improve its health outcomes. LaCare and I will strive to help Louisianans seize those opportunities this year and in the years to come."
