An Oakdale woman was arrested and charged April 4 with 21 counts of issuing worthless checks and one count of theft for allegedly writing more than 20 checks that returned to local businesses as insufficient.
Karen Lafleur, 52, was booked into the Vernon Parish jail after the sheriff's office arrested her based on multiple tips accusing her as the issuer the 22 insufficient checks, including one connected to a closed account. She was transported from the Vernon Parish Jail back to the Sabine Parish Detention Center, where she is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges.
Her bond was set at $11,000.
