Vernon Parish to raise fees to help 911 hotline

The Vernon Parish Police Jury has increase fees and surcharges to help its floundering 911 district, and will be seeking other ways to help curb costs in the future.

The American Press reports police jurors voted Monday in favor of increasing the monthly surcharge per line to 95 cents for residential and the business line fee to $2.70. The increase represents an 11 cent increase for homeowners per line and a $1 increase for businesses per line.

During a Police Jury meeting last month, Parish Administrator-Treasurer Rhonda Plummer told jurors the Vernon Parish Communications District had come to the governing authority asking for a monetary supplement to support its operations.

She said the parish needed to consider raising surcharges to prevent having to supplement the communications district annually.
