LEESVILLE, La. (AP) - Vernon Parish public schools have been put on notice to begin searching for another superintendent.
At last week's school board meeting, Superintendent Jackie Self announced his plans to retire, after more than 44 years with the system.
Self says he plans to retire June 30, the end of his contract.
The American Press reports though Self's contract ends at the end of the 2013-14 school year, he says he'll likely retire before that time.
Self also recommended that the board install his replacement by the first board meeting in December in an effort to give the new superintendent time to get adjusted.
