LAFAYETTE, LA - The Bayou Vermilion District's Vermilionville will be getting in the Easter spirit early on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 11 a.m. with an Easter celebration for the whole family. The day will include a natural egg dyeing demonstration, sweet dough tart cooking demo, prettiest egg contest, pâquer tournament and Cajun jam. See below for a timeline of events and more details.

The Easter festivities begin at 11 a.m. in the cooking school with a sweet dough tart cooking demonstration presented by Vermilionville artisan Joycelyn Trahan. The demonstration will be held from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and samples will be given to attendees.
Natural Easter Egg Dyeing Demonstration
The Easter celebration continues with a natural egg dyeing demonstration beginning at 11 a.m. in the Festive Area at Vermilionville. Families can learn about natural dyeing techniques that were used before modern day food coloring was around. After the demo participants will be able to dye and decorate their own Easter eggs; all dyeing and decorating items will be provided. Participants can bring their own hard boiled eggs and receive a $1 discount off admission or they can purchase hard boiled eggs at Vermilionville for $1 each.
Eggs & Easter Talk
Alex Caldwell, co-creator and president of Vivian Alexander, will be on hand to discuss eggs and the role they play in our Easter celebrations. The talk is open to all ages and will begin at 2:30 p.m. with audience Q&A to follow.
Prettiest Easter Egg Contest & Pâquer Tournament
At 2:45 p.m. participants can enter their freshly decorated eggs in Vermilionville's prettiest egg contest followed by a pâquer tournament. Mr. Alex Caldwell from Vivian Alexander will be the guest judge and will select the winner for the prettiest egg. The winner of the prettiest egg and pâquer contest will receive bragging rights for the year in addition to a special trophy hand crafted by Vermilionville's wood carving artisan Cliff Mire. The weekly Cajun jam at Vermilionville will be providing the musical backdrop for the Easter celebrations from 1 - 3:30 p.m. The free jam held in Vermilionville's Performance Center is open to all skill levels-beginner to professional.
