Vermilion Sheriff Sued By Civil Rights Group

The Southern Poverty Law Center filed a lawsuit this morning against Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon. The civil rights organization claims Couvillon has refused to release documents that they say "could reveal the widespread abuse of detained immigrants." KATC contacted Couvillon, who said he was not aware of the lawsuit. Couvillon also refused comment, saying he was in Baton Rouge at a meeting. The SPLC says it has requested documents from all but one of Louisiana's parishes. They say 15 parishes, including Vermilion, have not complied.
