ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - The Vermilion Parish School Board has voted to retain six of its eight interpreters for non-English-speaking students.
Chief Financial Officer Phillip Sellers tells The Advocate that the school district has two full-time interpreters and six contract employees, with federal Title I and Title III funds paying $60,000 toward their salaries.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Bobby Rizzuto said Thursday there is an increasing number of Asian- and Spanish-speaking students in the parish and the school district needed at least six interpreters to maintain its level of service to them.
