The Vermilion Parish Police Jury has temporarily shut down its recycling program. The police jury made the decision Monday night during its regular meeting. According to Police Juror Wayne Touchet, the Lafayette Recycling Foundation cannot accept the parish's recyclables because of last month's fire at its facility. Police Jury President Nathan Granger says the parish government does not have the space to store recyclables, so residents will have to be thrown away with regular garbage. Granger says he expects the hiatus to last one to two months.
