According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon the Vermilion Municipal Task force arrested one Junius Lewis Jr of 701 S. East St Abbeville after executing a search warrant. On 3/10/10 Agents with the Task Force obtained a search warrant for 701 S. East St for selling Prescription pills out of the said residence. Upon executing the warrant agents identified numerous controlled dangerous substances in prescription forms, all of which Lewis had no prescriptions for. Upon interviewing Lewis he admitted that he travels out of state to obtain the pills. Sheriff Couvillon states that the task force is cracking down on so called "Dr. Shopping" in the parish. Lewis was charged with possession with intent to distribute hydrocodone, possession with intent to distribute xanex and possession with intent to distribute soma's all controlled dangerous substances. Bond was set at $55,000.00.
In an effort to continue the crackdown the task force also arrested the following person this week.
Marshall Veasey : 28039 Front Ridge rd Kaplan La 70548 Dob 8/30/74…..Poss of Sch II controlled dangerous substance and Poss w/int to Dist Sch II..Bond was set at $45,000 on both charges
Priscilla Marceaux: 1800 West 3rd St Kaplan La 70548 DOB 01/03/1974…..26 counts of Obtaining a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Prescription Medicine) by Fraud….bond was set at $75,000.
Sheriff Couvillon further stated that "many of these people allegedly bounce around obtaining large amounts of pills to support their addictions or to sell the product for monetary gain. This crime is becoming more prevalent and we are committed to hitting it head on."
Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Abbeville Chief of Police Rick Coleman, Erath Police Chief Gerald Hebert and Erath Mayor George Dupuis commends the Narcotics Task Force for a job well done.
Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff's Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs.
