The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Division recently seized several packs of suspected powder cocaine, broken down for street distribution, and made one arrest
As agents were working illicit narcotics criminal patrol in Abbeville, they noticed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. At this time agents attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver of the vehicle did not immediately pull over and traveled further until coming to a stop. Agents noticed during the attempted stop that the passenger was acting in a nervous manner and moving around in the passenger seat in a strange manner. Upon stop the vehicle agents noticed both parties acting nervous. Agents enlisted the Vermilion Parish K-9 unit at this time. After running the K-9 on the said vehicle, it was noted that there was an indication possible illicit narcotics inside of the vehicle. A search warrant was applied for and obtained at this time. Upon a search of the vehicle several individual packets of suspected cocaine were seized.
Arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine was Roderick Levine (dob 2-26-79) of Abbeville. Levine was also arrested on warrants for failure to appear for court on past drug charges and failure to appear for court on traffic violations. Total bond set was $30,500.

The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
