The Vermilion / Municipal Narcotics Task force recently seized marijuana and a gun, while conducting Illicit Drug Operations in the Parish.
On December 5th, agents were working in a high drug related crime area. While conducting operation they made contact with three Asian male subjects suspected of drug related crimes. Through interviews and investigation, agents recovered a large amount of high grade marijuana, known as "DRO", and a hand gun. All of the drugs were found on the suspects . Agents further advised that upon patting down one of the suspects a weapon was found concealed in the crouch area. Sheriff Mike Couvillon stated, "This is just another example of how these law enforcement officers have no idea what they are walking in to when a stop or investigation is being conducted. If these men and women do not conduct themselves in a purely professional manner, and allow themselves to get complacent, it could cost them their lives."
Arrested and charged were:
-Chi Linh Mai, (dob 6-15-95) of Abbeville, booked on Possession of a Firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, illegal carrying of a firearm, and obliterated serial numbers on a firearm.
- Galang I. Mai, (dob 8-24-91) of Abbeville, booked on Principle to possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and principle to possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
-Jimmy Vo, (dob 3-31-93), of Abbeville, booked on possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and principle to possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, and Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff's Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs. He encourages all citizens with information in regards to illegal drug activities to contact the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office or the Vermilion Parish Municipal Narcotics Task Force at 337-740-4501 or E-mail the Task Force anonymously at firstname.lastname@example.org and your e-mail will be held in the "strictest of confidence" and replied to in a very timely manner.
