PRESS RELEASE - According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Chief Tony Hardy and Chief Boyd Adams, the Vermilion / Municipal task force made following arrests recently for drug related offense:
- On 5-6-13 agents were working street level sales disruption, when they noticed a suspected hand to hand drug deal occur on the corner of E. Oak and Hayes in Abbeville. Upon investigating, it was found that Song Minh Le (dob 3-8-82) of Abbeville, had purchased crack cocaine from a suspect who was able to elude the task force. Agents seized the drugs, and arrested Le for possession of cocaine.
- On 5-6-13 agents received information that a subject was in possession of suspected marijuana and was attempting to sell the drug on the streets. Agents traveled to the 500 Block of Hawthorne St. in Abbeville and encountered the suspect, Michael Richard (dob 11-22-89) of Abbeville. Upon agents approaching, Richard fled the area on foot, while agents gave chase. Upon subduing Richard, agents located marijuana on his person. Richard was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and resisting an officer.
- On 5-6-13 agents received information that Brice Vallier (dob 4-5-87) of Abbeville, was in possession of crack cocaine. Vallier, was also wanted by probation and parole for an outstanding felony warrant. Agents traveled to N. Lamar St. to investigate. Upon arriving, one agent approached Vallier and asked if he could speak to him. As the agent was walking up to Vallier he noticed Vallier place something in a trash can and begin to walk away. The agent lifted the lid to find several rocks of suspected crack cocaine in a plastic bag. At this time, Vallier began to flee on foot. After a brief chase, Vallier was subdued. Vallier was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, and resisting an officer.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank the following persons for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams "I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
Finally, Sheriff Couvillon would like to applaud the concerned citizens of Vermilion Parish for their awareness and assistance in helping the Sheriff's Office in fighting the war on illegal drugs.
