According to Sheriff Mike Couvillon, Chief Tony Hardy and Chief Boyd Adams, the Vermilion / Municipal task force made following arrests recently for drug related offense.
On Wednesday the 10th agents traveled to 308 Simon St in Kaplan in reference to complaints that illicit drug activity may have been taking place within the residence. Upon arriving, agents made contact with Baji Ramos (dob 8-3-73) of Kaplan. Upon advising Ramos of their reasons for the visit, agents read Ramos his Miranda rights which he stated he clearly understood. The operatives began asking Ramos questions in reference to the complaints, and while doing so detected the distinct odor of suspected marijuana. Upon further investigation agents located suspected marijuana on Ramos, and further located nearly three pounds of suspected marijuana I the residence. Ramos was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon would like to thank the following persons for their effort in assisting with Task Force personnel. Abbeville Mayor Mark Piazza, Kaplan Mayor Kirk Champagne, Abbeville Chief of Police Tony Hardy and Kaplan Chief Boyd Adams "I realize times are financially tough all over, but the Mayors and Chiefs of these cities are committed to finding the funds to help the Task Force combat the illicit drugs problem that ruins our communities. The people of Vermilion and our children are the benefactors of these city leaders' great efforts. It is my hope that in the near future other towns and cities in the parish of Vermilion will be able to assist in the continuing fight against illicit drugs."
