Love is blooming all around with Valentine's Day just a few hours away. It's a day where flower arrangements and roses take center stage. A total of 224 million roses are reportedly grown each year for Valentine's Day, and World-wide $1.9 billion will be spent on flowers.
At Leona Sue's Florist in Scott, owner Annie Taylor, is making sure every rose and every carnation is ready for their big day, and that no flower gets left behind
"This is what we strive for this is the busiest day of the year because unlike most holidays, you have one day," Taylor said. "We have been really really busy working late the last couple of nights. We have, as you can see extra designers here. We normally have three designers, today we have six so its been really busy," she said
Valentine's Day is one of the shops busiest holidays. For almost 40 years, employees have been delivering flowers to Acadiana's most romantic. This year they've had to call in extra help. "Right now we're up to 15 drivers tomorrow. We normally have two drivers on staff. So we have recruited pizza drivers, we have recruited everyone we could think of who does deliveries," Taylor said.
Employees have been staying late at the shop all week until 10 p.m. making sure everything is ready. Now the count-down is on to show-time. "Our refrigerator trucks are loaded and ready, so we'll be loading out tomorrow at 7 am," Taylor said.
