Jerome Comeaux of Youngsville was cited on a charge of careless operation after troopers say he caused a crash that shut down the interstate in Acadia Parish over the weekend. I-10 east was shut down from 6:00 p.m. Saturday until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday; westbound lanes were opened and closed throughout the night. The accident happened near the Egan exit in Acadia Parish, and the 18-wheeler that flipped over was carrying isopropyl alcohol which is a colorless, flammable chemical compound.
Troopers say Comeaux was traveling westbound in the pickup truck when he side-swiped an 18-wheeler. He then allegedly crossed the median into the eastbound lanes where another 18-wheeler was hit. No serious injuries were reported.
