WESTLAKE, La. (AP) - State police say a Westlake man was killed when his motorcycle was struck head-on by a car.
The accident happened at 7:24 a.m. Sunday on La. Highway 379 about 2 miles west of Westlake.
Investigating troopers say an 18-wheeler heading east had stopped at a railroad crossing. The 18-wheeler began to accelerate away from the railroad crossing when two eastbound vehicles passed the truck.
The first vehicle passed successfully. The second passing vehicle, driven by a 16-year-old, struck a westbound motorcycle driven by 57-year-old James Loniello.
Loniello, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Teen was issued a citation for improper passing. Trooper say additional charges are possible.
