Today, Troop I investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 697 at LA Highway 3083 which claimed the life of a Vatican man.
According to investigating Troopers, on November 21, 2012, at 11:15 a.m., 45-year-old Bernard Williams of Scott was driving a 1998 Freightliner tractor pulling a mobile home north on LA Highway 697. Williams was preparing to turn right onto LA Highway 3083. His passenger, 33-year-old Jeramie Vicknair of Vatican, attempted to exit the vehicle to position himself so he could direct Williams prior to turning. As Vicknair was exiting the vehicle, he lost his balance, fell, and was struck by the vehicle. Vicknair was pronounced dead by the St. Martin Parish Coroner.
Toxicology samples were obtained from Williams and Vicknair. They will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
With the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend upon us, Troopers remind drivers to exercise caution as they travel to and from their destinations. Troopers urge motorists to reduce distractions, buckle up and designate a driver.
