The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide after two bodies were found in a burning car on Claude Road in Maurice. Maurice firefighters made the gruesome discovery around 1 a.m. after responding to a 9-1-1 call. The vehicle was found about 100 feet down the road, south of Twins Oak Circle.
"It [the car] was pretty much burnt all the way to a crisp; burnt black and gray. There were no tires, no windows, no nothing," Marcus McDaniel said, who is moving into a housing complex nearby.
The Sheriff's Office said the license plate on the car was stolen and they were unable to identify the bodies.
"We have no idea right now whose vehicle this is and who the bodies are," Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said.
Couvillon said the Coroner's Office and the crime lab are analyzing the evidence, but since so much was destroyed in the fire it could be one to two weeks before there is more information.
Anyone with information on this incident should call the Vermilion Sheriff's Office.
