Louisiana State Police say Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner's Office declared Anthony Pitre, Sr., the driver of the pickup truck involved in a crash with a charter bus last week in Jeff Davis Parish, brain dead on Oct. 23.
According to troopers, Pitre, 67, was traveling on LA 101 on Oct. 16 when he failed to yield to the bus, which was traveling on U.S. 165.
"The bus struck the passenger side of the pickup truck causing severe damage to the truck. The driver of the bus braked hard in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unable to," said State Police Troop D Sgt. James Anderson.
Seven of the 46 passengers on the bus were taken to a hospital with minor injuries. The group is with the First National Bank Senior Group of Bastrop, Texas and was traveling to Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder.
Troop D has investigated 21 fatal crashes resulting in 23 fatalities this year.
