Update: Three dead in helicopter crash in Cameron Parish

The three people on board the helicopter that crashed in Cameron Parish are all dead, according to Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson. The pilot and two passengers crashed in a remote area about five miles southeast of Lake Charles Regional Airport. "The helicopter caught on fire," Johnson said.

The sheriff says Era Helicopters owns the helicopter. KATC is waiting on word from the company to find out if their own employees were on board.

The sheriff's office received the call at 11:45 a.m. from an off-duty dispatcher who witnessed the crash. The first deputy arrived at the intersection closest to the scene at 11:53, the sheriff said.  The Federal Aviation Administration is on the scene.
