According to the Vermilion Sheriff's Office, around 11:30 this morning they responded to a call from Gueydan High School about a possible bomb device.
Deputies say a student had placed a small electronic device in one of the computer classrooms, and had informed friends of his intentions to place the device in the classroom to cause distractions.
Sheriff Couvillon says there is no sufficient evidence to support any indications of a bomb being placed in the school or anyone making threats to blow up the school.
The electronic device was located behind a computer in the classroom was beeping at the time that it was discovered.
As a precautionary measure the school was evacuated.
Sheriff Couvillon says the device appeared to be some type of prank electronic device which may have been purchased on-line by the student, and although this appears to have been a prank, necessary steps had to be taken to ensure the safety of everyone at Gueydan High School.
