Update: Suspicious Death in Lafayette Now Called Murder

Lafayette Police tell us Tuesday's "suspicious death" is now being classified as a homicide.  The victim was killed from a gunshot wound.  Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS.

Lafayette police responded to a 5:45am call this morning from a man who said his son was dead outside a home on Richter Drive.

"When officers arrived, the victim was found deceased in the car port area; he was found by his father. The father indicated he was deceased at the time he had called," says Corporal Randy Leger.

Police called it "suspicious activity."

The victim is 27-year-old Joseph Lamar Dugas.

Police say they are still trying to find out how Dugas died and if anyone else may have been involved.

Autopsy results are due back Wednesday.

"The officers are currently interviewing witnesses at this time, attempting to locate a suspect" Leger says.
