UPDATE: Simmesport Gas Station Fire is Out

A large fire at Maddie's Truck Sop in Simmesport is forcing the closure of Highway One.
It started at 10:30 this morning. a Preliminary investigation suggest it started as an electrical fire.
Several businesses were evacuated, including a nursing home and two daycares.
In addition all nearby schools were cleared out, just as precaution.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control by this afternoon. The wind was a major factor in fighting this fire.
There were no injuries to report.
Five different fire departments were called out and most of those firefighters were volunteers.
A homes and two other businesses were ruined including D-M Car Quest and Maddie's Truck Plaza.
