Lafayette police say they have found the clothes a suspected bank robber was wearing when he hit a credit union this afternoon.
According to Cpl. Paul Mouton, investigators found the clothes in the woods while searching for the suspect. KATC's Kari Beal reports that police chased the suspect on foot shortly after arriving on scene. The suspect was able to escape and remains at large.
Police do not know yet if the suspect is connected to any of the other robberies that have taken place in Lafayette over the last three weeks. However, investigators say they believe the suspect in this case is working alone.
According to investigators, the suspect robbed the Section 705 Federal Credit Union on West Willow Street around 11 a.m. at gunpoint. No one inside the credit union was injured during the incident.
J. Wallace James Elementary School, which is approximately a block down the road, was placed on lockdown while police searched a perimeter set up in the area. Four police officers are stationed outside of the school. However, officials say this is protocol in a situation such as this.
Police say the suspect is a black man wearing light-colored pants, a grey jacket, and a yellow and black mask.
If you know anything about this incident, call Lafayette Crimestoppers at 232-TIPS.
