State Police say 53-year-old Leonardo Lopez of New Iberia, is the man who died in the deadly crash, Sunday, on Neko Town Rd.
Trooper Stephen Hammons says Lopez was stopped at the intersection of Neko Town Road and Hwy 90, and for unknown reasons pulled into the path of a Jeep traveling on Hwy 90. Lopez was not wearing a seatbelt. The Jeep driver had minor injuries.
Trooper Hammons says the crash was the second fatal crash Troop I investigated in 24 hours where an unrestrained vehicle occupant died. "Louisiana State Law requires that everyone in a motor vehicle wear a seatbelt. While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash, it will reduce your risk of injury in most crashes. Remember to always buckle up and designate a driver."
