The naked Ville Platte man accused of scuffling with a sheriff's deputy still hasn't been booked into jail. As of 2:30 Thursday afternoon, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's deputies had Byron Simon, 22, in a holding cell until he comes down off his high, Public Information Officer Megan Vizena said.
Around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Simon was involved in a crash on I-49 North near milepost 40. He's accused of punching the other driver, who then drove away and called authorities, Vizena said. When a St. Landry deputy arrived, a naked Simon ran toward the deputy and got into the deputy's vehicle. The two men struggled, which a trooper witnessed when he arrived on the scene. The trooper fired his weapon, but no one was injured, State Police Public Information Officer Stephen Hammons said. The trooper then used his Taser to subdue Simon.
Vizena says Simon admitted to being high drugs but didn't say what he had taken. She says deputies don't know whey the man was naked. He's being held in a holding cell and being watched closely, she said.
