Update: Man jailed after Nov. officer-related shooting

State Police arrested a Welsh man after officers say he brandished a gun during a traffic stop in Welsh in November. Dexter Prudhomme, Jr., 35, was arrested Friday, Dec. 20 and charged with illegal carrying of weapons, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting an officer with violent force.

During a traffic stop on Nov. 18, a Welsh officer told Prudhomme not to touch a gun that was next to him in his vehicle, according to state police. "Prudhomme ignored the officer's orders, grabbed the gun, and exited the vehicle. One of the officers then shot Prudhomme twice," State Trooper Sgt. James Anderson said.

The Welsh Police Dept. asked the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations to investigate the shooting. Prudhomme is now in the Jefferson Davis Parish Jail being held without bond.
