LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana Supreme Court has agreed to
hear an appeal in a lawsuit against the Lafayette Parish School
Board over a middle school student's alleged sexual assault in
2004.
The girl's family sued the school board after she reported being
assaulted while walking home from school after detention. Her
lawsuit claims she was told she couldn't ride a bus available for
students who stayed late for extracurricular activities.
The Supreme Court will hear the case on May 11.
After a lower court sided with the school board, a state appeals
court ruled in the girl's favor and awarded her family more than
$120,000.
The school board has questioned whether the girl was assaulted.
Nobody has been charged with the crime.
