A Jennings police officer is recovering in a Lafayette hospital, after he was shot in the neck Monday. Investigators say Officer ricky Benoit was in stable condition, when he was shot while responding to a domestic disturbance call. Investigators say Benoit was shot while trying to speak to a man inside of a home on East South Street around 11 a.m. Monday.
State Police are investigating. Troopers say a suspect is in custody and is being interviewed. No charges have been filed.
Benoit was the first Jennings police officer shot since 2004, when Officer Burt LeBlanc was fatally shot and two others wounded responding to a 911 call.
