UPDATE: Law enforcement officials found no forced entry and are waiting to re-interview Rasmussen on inconsistencies in her story.
Police say Richard Davis died after he was stabbed several times---his girlfriend, Mary Rasmussen says an unknown male wearing a black mask entered the home, began stabbing Davis and cutting her on the arm.
The murderer of Richard Dean Davis is still on the run. Davis was stabbed several times Tuesday morning at his girlfriend's house. His girlfriend Mary Katherine Rasmussen was also stabbed. It happened at 2:30 a.m. at Wooden Treasures Trailer Park in Iowa, LA
Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis Parish investigators spent all morning trying to gather as much evidence as possible to find a suspect. Jeff Davis Sheriff Rickey Edwards says they do have leads but an arrest has not been made.
Meanwhile, neighbors are worried for their lives. Liz Rea has lived in Wooden Treasures trailer park for more than 20 years. She says things like this don't happen in that area. "This is really scary. I still have a young child that still thinks she can walk around the trailer park. Then you hear something like this happens in the middle of the night and your like, now you can't wonder. You can't go off without me," said Rea. Neighbor Tammy Fontenot-Smith agrees, "Until they catch this person, or whoever's done it. It is kind of scary because you know that person is at large," she said.
Both Rea and Fontenot-Smith say Rasmussen ran another neighbors house and knocked on the door for help. When the neighbor answered, Rasmussen said, "Call 911, Dean and I have been stabbed."
Now the residents in Wooden Treasures are worried for their lives, "They need to catch him and bring him to justice," said Fontenot-Smith.
At 2:30 AM on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a female stating that her mother and her mother's boyfriend had been stabbed in Iowa, LA. Deputies arrived within 4 minutes of the call and found Richard Dean Davis, 33, stabbed multiple times. Also cut was Mary Katherine Rasmussen, 36. Rasmussen was transported to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released for her injuries. Richard Davis died from his injuries. Davis' body was transported to the Calcasieu Coroner's Office for an autopsy. Lacassine Fire Department First Responders, Jefferson Davis Parish District Attorney's Office, Jefferson Davis Parish Coroner's Office, Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office, Calcasieu Forensic Investigative Unit, Iowa Police Department, and Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office are assisting in the investigation.
