State Police update: A SUV was traveling west on Highway 90, when one of the tires failed on the vehicle. It crossed the center lane and struck a Lafayette Parish school bus traveling eastbound to a baseball game in Berwick. The 36-year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle, as well as a 6 year old, 7 year old, and 16 year old. A 17-year-old, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken to the hospital via helicopter with serious injuries. (A law enforcement official on the scene gave us slightly different ages earlier today, which is why there is a discrepancy in a previous story.)
Troopers go on to say 30 students were on board the bus, as well as five adults. Several students are suffering from minor injuries; the adult is said to have moderate to severe injuries.
