UPDATE: Four headed to hospital after bus crash

Four people are headed to local hospitals after a bus coming from L. Leo Judice Elementary School was involved in a three-vehicle crash.

The collision took place around 3:20 p.m. in Scott at the corner of Cameron Street and Jenkins Road.

According to Scott police, an SUV was traveling behind, a special education bus, Bus No. 281, and struck the bus after it slowed down for traffic. The SUV then traveled into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming pick-up truck.

The Lafayette Parish School System says two students, an aide, and the driver were on the bus at the time of the crash. Both students will be transported with minor injuries. The bus driver will be transported with moderate head injuries. The aide was not injured.

Police and Lafayette Parish sheriff's deputies are working to extract the driver of the SUV. The driver will be transported to a local hospital with moderate to severe injuries.

Officials from L. Leo Judice and the Lafayette Parish School System are on the scene. They say the parents of the students have been notified.
