An early morning house fire in Carencro destroyed a home. Lafayette, Carencro, Scott, Cankton, and Prairie Fire Departments responded to 1113 Rue Des Etoiles. On arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the house. Firefighters entered the home trying to local the fire. Upon reaching the upstairs, firefighters found the fire in the attic through the smoke-filled house.
What the fire crew hadn't realized was that the roof had been penetrated by the fire, weakening the structure. Exterior emergency crews sounded the alert to evacuate due to the fire engulfing the roof. Interior firefighting crews exited just as the rood and ceiling began to collapse. All interior firefighters escaped without any injuries. Firefighters battled the blaze for approximately thirty minutes before getting it under control.
The two-story home, owned by Ms. Dawn Laviolette and her daughter were asleep when they were awoken by their smoke alarm. They noticed the upstairs was filled with smoke and evacuated the home. They were able to get the pets out and called 911.
Fire investigators are examining the scene and interviewing the occupants to determine the origin and cause of the fire. Preliminary results indicate that the fire originated in the attic of the dwelling. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
