Broussard police have identified the driver of a motorcycle who was killed in a crash tonight.
Police say the accident happened in the 400 block of La Neuville Road. When officers' arrived they say they found a 2005 Kawasaki sport motorcycle laying in the eastbound lane of travel along with the driver, who has been identified as, Richard Carruth Jr, 39, of Lafayette.
Investigation revealed that Carruth was traveling west on La Neuville Road when he just barely struck the rear of a Ford work truck that was stopping for traffic congestion. Police say this caused Carruth to be ejected off the motorcycle and go in to the oncoming lane of travel. Police say that's when Carruth was ran over by a Lexus. The driver of the Lexus told police that she was driving east on La Neuville and heard a loud noise under the vehicle so she stopped and noticed that a crash had just occurred. Carruth was he was pronounced dead.
Carruth was driving with a suspended driver's license and was wearing a helmet at the time of crash. Alcohol involvement is possible as well but toxicology reports are pending for Carruth. The other two drivers were not injured and were not under the influence of alcohol.
