We're learning more information about Brian Keith Soileau, and how his run from the law ended in Oklahoma. Soileau was shot while driving on an Oklahoma interstate and crashed the stolen truck he was driving. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol's decision to use deadly force was due to Soileau driving the wrong way on the interstate, Trooper Betsy Randolph said. A bullet went through Soileau's side and back, and after a stay in an Oklahoma hospital, he's in good condition. Two troopers suffered minor injuries. They were not shot.
An Oklahoma TV station reported Soileau robbed a bank in Texas, but KATC has confirmed that's not true. The days between his escape from the Pine Prairie Correctional Center and his capture in Oklahoma, authorities say Soileau broke into camps and stole food in Evangeline Parish. His wife, Anna Soileau, is accused of providing him with clothing and food and is charged with obstruction of justice and accessory after fact of simple escape. How he escaped from the jail is still under investigation.
It's unclear when Soileau will be extradited back to Louisiana. He's in the Oklahoma County Jail and can waive extradition or fight it which would delay his return to Evangeline Parish. Oklahoma authorities could choose to keep him and charge him there first.
