UPDATE: Bond Set In Rena Drive Shooting Case

UPDATE: Bond has been set for the man accused of shooting and killing another man in Lafayette last week.

60-year-old Jerry Steinle is charged with second degree murder in the case.
He's being held at the Lafayette Parish Jail on 250,000 bond.

40-year-old David Trahan of Scott was laid to rest monday.
He was killed after police say Steinle confronted him for scribbling the word "pedophile" on his side door.

New information out on Thursday's deadly shooting in Lafayette.  Police say the paths of the suspect and victim crossed once before, back in 2005.

"The victim had went to the residence and written 'pedophile' on the roof of the suspect," said Corporal Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department.

40 year old David Trahan, who was shot and killed on Rena Drive, was issued a summons back in 2005 for criminal damage to property at the same address where he was shot Thursday.

Police have charged 60 year old Jerry Steinle with second degree murder following the incident.  Prior to Thursday's shooting, Police say Trahan was scribbling something on Steinle's door.

"It was at that time, there was some type of disturbance that took place and multiple shots were fired in the direction of Trahan," Mouton said.

On the side door to Steinle's home Friday, the word 'pedophile' could be seen written in marker.

"He wasn't on any sex offender list or anything like that," said Jason Meyers, who witnessed Thursday's shooting.

Police have no record of any reports filed against Steinle by Trahan, and he has no known history of sex crimes.  Steinle has been charged with second degree murder and is being held at the Lafayette Parish jail.  KATC could not reach Trahan's family for comment.
