KATC has learned the 3-year-old boy who was found dead in a Lafayette home was in the custody of the his mother's boyfriend. "First responders found the child in grave condition and CPR was initiated immediately. The child was transported to Women's and Children's Hospital where the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival," according to Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson, Capt. Kip Judice.
Deputies were called to the house in the 3700 block of Kaliste Saloom Rd. at 10:22 Thursday morning. Ivestigators are not describing the boy's condition when deputies arrived. Neither the mother nor the boyfriend lives at the home. The residence is the boyfriend's mother's home.
"The Sheriff's Office is not releasing any specifics with regards to injuries or lack thereof or suspicions of a potential cause of death," Judice said. The Lafayette Parish Coroner will perform an autopsy Friday. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and people who have seen the child over the past several days, Judice said.
The identity of the child will not be released until the child's father, who lives out of town, has been notified.
