Louisiana State Police say a New Iberia man who was not wearing a seat belt was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash after his vehicle went off the roadway of LA 87 near LA 670 in St. Mary Parish.
According to investigators, a farmer called 911 after finding a 1998 Nissan Maxima in the coulee just after 7:30 a.m. Friday. Troopers say they determined that between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Charles Rogers, 60, of New Iberia, was driving south on LA 87.
State Police say Rogers traveled off the right side of the road in a curve, entered a water-filled coulee, then his vehicle overturned. Rogers was not restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
