Unrestrained Driver Dies in Two Vehicle Crash

Today, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 93 south of LA Highway 98 that left a Shreveport man dead.

According to investigating Troopers, at 11:30 a.m., 33-year-old Curtis Chiles of Shreveport was driving a 2011 Mazda passenger car north on LA Highway 93. A 1998 Dodge truck, driven by 58-year-old Buddy Goather of Carencro, was traveling south on LA Highway 93 approaching Chiles' vehicle. For reasons still under investigation, Chiles crossed the center line and his vehicle struck Goather's vehicle head-on.

Chiles was not restrained and was ejected form the vehicle. He was pronounced dead by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. Goather was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
